After a good start in Michigan New Zealand golfer Danny Lee has narrowly missed out on a place in the British Open

Lee shot rounds of 67 and 72 at the qualifying tournament and was in a five way playoff for the final seven spots in the tournament at the Royal Birkdale in England starting next week

But Lee, the only amateur in the qualifying event, lost out to American Thomas Gills.

He will now return to the American amateur circuit.
