New Zealand had a forgettable match against Malaysia on Sunday
night going down by a disappointing 2-0 margin.
Manager Kevin Marr said it was a night where final passes and
touches let the side down.
"It certainly wasn't the game plan or effort - it was just one of
the days when the bounce of the ball didn't go our way."
Malaysia scored early the match from a free hit from out side the
circle. Their second goal came five minutes into the second half, a
nicely taken field goal from an acute angle after a counter
attack.
New Zealand dominated the remaining 25 minutes but could not score
despite sustained attacks on goal.
"It is disappointing and we needed this game to advance our chances
of making the final, but we still have the opportunity, with three
games to go, to advance our ranking," said Marr.
The Black Sticks now have two days to regroup before meeting
Argentina on Wednesday at 8pm NZ time.
