A private search party which went out looking for signs of missing Israeli tourist Liat Okin has apparently returned with nothing.

The 35-year-old was last seen at a hut off the Routeburn Track near Queenstown six and a half weeks ago.

Her 26-year-old brother has been running a full-scale search since last Thursday, costing his family between four and $10,000 a day.

The search party went into the bush on Saturday to examine a trail of footprints, but report no breakthrough in their quest.
