The Greens are urging the government to show some courage and push ahead with the Emissions Trading Scheme.

A select committee hearing has begun this week, amid intense criticism from business and other political parties on what shape the scheme should take.

The Greens and Maori Party are threatening to pull their support, while National is wavering.

But Greens co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says she is sure Labour will cave into National, just as they have to every other lobby group.

She says there is a 'grand coalition' forming between the two major parties, and she wants the government to show courage and do what everyone knows needs to be done.
