A medical expert who has asked for witness protection has given grim details at the trial of Chris Kahui.

The jury at the Auckland High Court heard the extent of the injuries the three month-old Kahui twins had suffered when they were admitted to hospital.

The jury has also heard why the accused didn't take his twins to hospital when one stopped breathing.

They are being shown the third taped police interview with Kahui, carried out four months after his babies died.

Kahui tells Detective Sergeant Chris Barry he carried out CPR on baby Cru after he stopped breathing on the night the Crown alleges the babies received their fatal injuries.

He tells the detective he didn't take the babies to the hospital because he was happy.

Detective Sergeant Barry then asked the accused if he didn't take them to hospital because people would then know he hurt them - and he replied no.

Kahui also told police he wanted to hand himself in to make the investigation go away.

The twins later died at Starship Hospital.

Chris Kahui denies murdering them.
