The casual and formal outfits New Zealand's athletes will wear at the Beijing Olympics have been unveiled in Auckland.
Distinctly Kiwi, the uniforms have a unique eight frond silver fern, representing the auspicious Chinese number.
They have been designed by Levin company Kapinua and Chef de Mission Dave Currie is amazed a small regional organisation has produced such an amazing design.
Currie says everyone worked very hard to produce a simple, comfortable but eye-catching outfit.
But stylist Robert Niwa has other thoughts. He told ONE News that while the outfits were comfortable and functional they aren't exactly fashion forward.
"I think overall it just looks really casual. There's nothing kind of that fantastic," Niwa says
He was also disappointed to see Crocs sandals included.
"The footwear's probably what i've got my biggest issue with. I don't know about the plastic Croc-y kind of shoe. Maybe a beautiful leather shoe ... sandal or jandal."
Overall Niwa says the uniform doesn't have the sophistication many countries, such as the Italians, will display.
The suit for the opening ceremony will be kept a secret until the start of the Games.
