The New Zealand fugitive arrested in the United States is about to head back to Auckland to be charged with murdering his wife and abandoning his daughter.
New Zealand detectives have finally interviewed Nai Yin Xue who fled New Zealand six months ago.
The two detectives had a two hour meeting with Xue in Atlanta but won't say what was discussed.
"All that I can say is that he is a suspect to this incident and that on his arrival in New Zealand he will be met by detectives from the Auckland City Police, who will then request a formal interview with him," said Detective Sergeant Brett Batty of Auckland Police.
However more was revealed about Xue's time on the run in the United States. He landed in Los Angeles on September 15 where he spent one night after which he was not seen for three months.
At Christmas he bought a car in Houston and travelled extensively through Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia before being spotted near Atlanta a week ago.
Six Chinese nationals recognised Xue and carried out a citizens arrest. Their actions are being praised by the local police chief.
"They deserve a tremendous amount of credit for stepping forward and getting a murder suspect off the streets," Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson says.
And for that they're picking up the $13,000 reward for Xue's capture.
