Previously secret files on the 1951 waterfront strike are about to be made public.
Prime Minister Helen Clark, who is also the Minister for the Secret Intelligence Service, says Police Special Branch files on the waterfront strike are to be transferred to Archives New Zealand.
She says the files comprise a unique record of New Zealand's most significant and confrontational industrial dispute.
Clark says the transfer is part of the SIS meeting its obligations under the 2005 Public Records Act.
