Those who have the day off for Waitangi are in luck with fine weather expected around most of New Zealand.
MetService Weather Ambassador Bob McDavitt says tropical cyclone Gene, which is forecast to move between New Zealand and Tonga, is moving to the south-east of New Zealand.
He says there might be some winds and showers at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds but it should be fine elsewhere.
McDavitt says the weekend is not looking so good, with rain
expected in central parts of the country.
