Laxman: all pressure on Australia

Australia's nemesis VVS Laxman has said all the pressure is on the home side as they attempt to surpass the achievement of Don Bradman's Invincibles to record an unprecedented 17th straight victory.

Laxman's 79, and shepherding of the Indian tail, allowed the tourists to build a lead of 413 on day three of the Perth Test, leaving Australia the task of completing Australia's highest successful run chase on day four in Perth.

Bradman's 1948 team posted 3-404 to beat England in Leeds, while Steve Waugh's men reached 6-369 to beat Pakistan in Hobart in 1999.

And with both Australia openers already dismissed as Australia finished day three on 2-65, Laxman believes it will take something special for those feats to be surpassed.

"I think they are under a lot of pressure tomorrow. I think getting 350 runs in the fourth innings, and the way our bowlers bowled in the last hour was very encouraging," Laxman said.

"Getting 400 in the fourth innings will really be a psychological challenge."

Now with five centuries and seven fifties against the Australians at an average of over 50, Laxman was also able to coax important runs out of tailenders such as Pathan (46) and RP Singh (30).

And a vital partnership of 75 with MS Dhoni after lunch swung the momentum away from Ricky Ponting's men, and gave Laxman another

chance to play under the pressure he says he craves.

"I always believed our guys are capable batsmen, and even the way RP batted today ... shows they can bat," Laxman said.

"And Dhoni hung in there not playing his free stride, and played for the situation the team was in.

"Whenever the team is under pressure I think it gets the best out of me ... when I do well and help the team out in these situations it gives me a lot of satisfaction.

"The innings will definitely be one of the best if we can win tomorrow, it will be a great moment for us."

While India's young pace attack has taken many of the plaudits in Perth - especially Irfan Pathan who claimed the two Australian

wickets to fall late on day three - Laxman predicted skipper Anil Kumble could be the key.

"There was bounce for spinners, especially when (Michael) Clarke was bowling," Laxman said.

"Even in the one over Anil bowled to Rocky Ponting you could see there was extra bounce for him.

"So I think Anil will play a huge role tomorrow."
