Prison protest to be peaceful

Ngapuhi people who support the building of a prison at Ngawha say they have no problems with a protest there this weekend, as long as it is peaceful.

Objectors who plan to march to the site in Northland on Saturday afternoon say they will make declarations and say prayers, but will also discuss occupation.

Mac Ananaia of Ngati Rangi, the family group with guardianship status for the land, says the action seems pointless.

But he says the objectors have a right to protest, and as long as they behave themselves he will not object.
