Scott Sattler said his future career was an "open book" following his resignation, effective on Monday, as Gold Coast Titans football manager.
Sattler, 36, quit the NRL club to pursue other business interests.
After commentating on NRL matches for Fox Sports last year, Sattler told AAP that he wanted to concentrate on his work in the media while looking for opportunities in the commercial sector.
"It's really going to be open book to be honest," Sattler said.
"I've been at the Titans for three-and-a-bit years now.
"I've been fortunate to work with some pretty wise people at the Titans over the years and what I've learnt at an operational level,
I just want to see if I can put that to good use outside the club."
Sattler said he had quit more than two months before the NRL season started to cause minimum disruption.
Former lock Sattler, who played one State of Origin match for Queensland, is best remembered for his try-saving tackle on Sydney Roosters flyer Todd Byrne playing for Penrith in the 2003 grand final.
He played for the Gold Coast Seagulls, the Roosters, South Queensland Crushers, Gold Coast Chargers, Penrith and Wests Tigers from 1992 to 2004.
Titans managing director Michael Searle said he was disappointed to be losing Sattler from the club but understood his decision.
"Satts has been a big asset for us at the club," Searle commented.
"He joined us before we were given the green light for the licence and during that time he made a significant contribution to the grass roots rugby league and community areas of our business."
Sattler's position will be filled by the club's operations manager Scott Clark who was football manager of the Junior Kangaroos in 2006 and spent eight years as chief executive of the Burleigh Bears before joining the Titans.
In other news, club doctor Paul Ohmeson said injured North Queensland recruit Brenton Bowen (knee) will undergo restricted training for the next two weeks but should be fit for Gold Coast's opening trial against Penrith in Ipswich on February 16.
