Team Australia has a new driver for the rest of the World Cup of Motorsport season, replacing Ian Dyk.

Team boss Alan Jones has hired John Martin, a former national Formula Ford champion who recently completed his first season in the ultra competitive English Formula Three Championship.

"The decision to put John in the drivers seat will be an exciting boost after what has been a slow start to the season for A1 Team Australia," Jones said in Sydney today.

"The decision for Ian to step down from the team was a difficult one, however we would like to thank Ian for all his work over the last two seasons and together wish him the best for his career."

After four of the ten events, Australia, with just two points, is languishing in 17th place in the 22-team field.

Switzerland leads with 79 points from France on 60, New Zealand 59 and Britain 48.

Martin's first outing will be at the fifth round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in Taupo New Zealand on January 20.

The Australian round is at Sydney's Eastern Creek on February 3.
