The cost of petrol went up on Friday, with all major outlets hiking prices up by five cents a litre.

Diesel was up six cents a litre.

It follows a record jump in the cost of crude oil on Wednesday.

Just as the experts predicted the price hike started at 10am on Friday with BP leading the charge, followed by Shell, Mobil and Caltex.

The only station not to increase their price on Friday was Gull, who criticised the other station for increasing their prices during the holiday season when there are so many motorists around, saying the last thing people need now is a price hike.

But Gull will be increasing their prices too; but only after the holiday season is over.

Consumers say they are shocked that the prices have gone up again with one man even saying he was planning to sell his car as he just did not have the money to run it anymore.
