Frenchman Julien Benneteau has been promoted to the main draw of January's Heineken Tennis Open.

This change comes after the withdrawal of seventh seeded Italian Potito Starace who was handed a six week ban from the ATP for gambling offences.

Heineken Open tournament director Graham Pearce said it is unfortunate that Starace is gone but strict rules need to be obeyed.

Pearce, who is also an ATP Board member, said that the rule is there and needs to be applied, and it has been applied.

Belgian Xavier Malisse, who has an injury protected ranking of 31, replaces Starace as the tournament's seventh seed.

Twenty-four-year-old German Philipp Kohlschreiber, who reached the quarter finals at the 2007 Heineken Open and proved a crowd favourite on the outside courts with some titanic battles, becomes the final seed.

The 2008 Heineken Open commences on January 7.
