The Prime Minister is staying well out of the latest debate over giving the police taser stun guns.

Police are due to make a decision next month on whether they will be introduced.

But that has upset the Green Party who believe the decision should be made by the government.

But Helen Clark says the taser evaluation is a proper process and should see its course.

Green MP Keith Locke argues the government should make the decision as the taser is a dangerous weapon and its use could breach New Zealand's adherence to a UN Convention against Torture.
