Retired Australian bowling great Shane Warne has slammed New
Zealand's questioning of Shaun Tait's action, saying the Kiwis are
scared of him.
It was revealed yesterday New Zealand's cricketers have privately
queried whether Tait is a "chucker", and Black Caps skipper Daniel
Vettori and coach John Bracewell have both refused to publicly
endorse the fast bowler's action.
The furore comes after Tait's destructive four-over spell,
including two wickets from his first four deliveries, during
Tuesday night's Twenty20 clash in Perth.
But Warne went into bat for Tait today, accusing Bracewell of
raising the topic to unsettle the South Australian.
"He's played World Cups and everything and no-one's questioned
him," Warne told Melbourne radio station SEN today.
"They got absolutely embarrassed the other night in the Twenty20
game. To me, half their players look scared of Shaun Tait.
"It's just John Bracewell being a stirrer. I think he's throwing
that out there just to try and upset him (Tait)."
Warne also said he did not think the day-night Test matches floated
by Cricket Australia this week could work.
CA believes cricket could grab a four-fold increase in television
ratings by playing Tests in prime time, and chief executive James
Sutherland said he wanted to trial the concept
within the decade.
But Warne said the issues of how to cope with a deteriorating white
ball under floodlights, and changing light conditions in the early
evening meant the idea was a good idea but the problem you'll have
is the ball.
There's so many issues with that and bowling your overs, you
might finish at midnight," he said.
"When it turns from light to dark that's when it's the hardest -
when the lights don't fully take effect.
"I don't think it will get off the ground."
