Australia came from behind to snatch a thrilling 3-3 draw with New Zealand in their final hitout before the Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament in Malaysia next week.

The Olympic champion Kookaburras trailed 3-1 but two goals in the space of 90 seconds late in the second half meant the series unusually finished 0-0 thanks to three draws.

Australia coach Barry Dancer was happy his side fought back but admitted there were deficiencies in the circle at both ends of the field.

Sunday's steamy conditions at Sydney Olympic Park were an ideal prelude to what the side can expect in Kuala Lumpur when they arrive tomorrow for the eight nation tournament.
