Stuart ends Grothe's Test career

Parramatta star Eric Grothe's representative career is dangling by a thread after the erratic winger again failed to turn up to a team session on Wednesday.

Grothe's second rep football no-show in two years prompted a stinging rebuke from Test coach Ricky Stuart and left Eels officials and his management also wondering where he was.

The 27-year-old, who played in last Sunday's preliminary final loss to Melbourne, failed to appear at the Australian train-on squad's gathering at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Last year, he infamously slept in and turned up two hours late to a team medical after he was selected to play for City.

In May this year, Grothe failed to answer a call from the NRL judiciary after he'd offered to help defend Manly's Jamie Lyon over the phone because he needed to practice with his rock band.

"I'm not going to lie, he didn't lob," Stuart said.

"He knew about it and he'll be no longer in my plans and I hope the selectors and the ARL understand that's only my decision, but I hope they take it on board.

"A person who's not going to respect the jumper, as I said from day one when I got this job, he won't be in my plans this year or in the future."

Asked how he felt about Grothe's no-show, Stuart said:

"Satisfied actually. He gives me great evidence today as to where his indications lie and that's obviously to have a drink with his mates."

Australian Rugby League boss Geoff Carr said he was not yet in a position to make a judgement on the Eels star.

"I've heard (Stuart's) comments which are understandable without hearing what Eric's had to say or his management had to say or his club had to say," Carr said.

"Ricky obviously made his thoughts felt so we'll leave it at that until those other parties get back to us."

Stuart said he had not been contacted by or received an apology from Grothe, but the Kangaroos coach wasn't the only one unable to get through to the winger.

A Parramatta spokesman said he didn't know where Grothe was and the club would not be making comment until they had spoken with him.

Grothe's manager Andrew Purcell was also struggling to get hold of his client.

"There's nothing to mention at the moment," Purcell said.

"I haven't got hold of him yet.

"I don't know what the reason behind it (the no-show) is, there could be a legitimate reason."AAP was also unable to contact Grothe on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Stuart said speculation Bulldogs star Willie Mason could be overlooked for the October 14 Test against New Zealand had not been far fetched.

"I think it was fair comment," he said.

"(No-one's) safe and I think you'll find a few new faces in this 18.

"But I think if you spoke to Willie about it he would agree with me in regards to the comment."

On the injury front, North Queensland forward Carl Webb was ruled out of contention for the Wellington Test with his calf tear still not improving.

"It's just taking its time," Webb said.

"I started the year with a broken jaw then went through a

hamstring injury during the Origin period.

"I've tried to stay positive through it all but then to finish it like this is disappointing."

Cronulla lock Paul Gallen will see specialist Dr Des Bokor on Friday to have a shoulder injury he picked up in the Prime Minister's XIII match against Papua New Guinea checked.

Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah trained today and said his hip and abdominal injuries would be "100 percent" in a week's time.
