The police say they have not yet decided whether they will investigate a complaint against Green MP Nandor Tanczos for using cannabis.

Green MP Nandor Tanczos is staying "tight-lipped" about a visit he has had from the head of Wellington CIB.

New Zealand First MP Craig McNair laid a complaint with police on Thursday saying it is time Tanczos was held to account for his self-confessed cannabis use.

Tanczos says he is being attacked personally because there is no argument to be made in support of continued cannabis prohibition.

A police spokesperson says they will evaluate the matter over the next few days.

Police say when someone reports an alleged criminal offence it is up to the station commander where the complaint is made to decide what priority to give it.

Tanczos says the complaint is a waste of police time and resources.

Detective Inspector Harry Quinn spoke with Tanczos for 30 minutes on Thursday in front of a lawyer.
