Melting ice creating new sea routes

Global warming is carving a path through seas that have never been travelled before.

For centuries, ice has prevented sailors from navigating the northwest passage - the legendary route around the top of North America.
 
But in the past 10 years the ice has reduced dramatically and experts predict the area could soon become a viable sea route.
 
Scientists say the Arctic sea ice now has reached its lowest levels on record.
