The Labour Party is trying to link National's leader John Key to a leaky home legal case.
In parliament on Thursday Labour accused Key of being a director in an Auckland property firm that is attempting to go into liquidation to avoid leaky building costs.
The architects involved in the construction of the building were the Leschke Group, which has gone into liquidation.
One of the directors of that company was Colin Leuschke, who has a business relationship with Key.
Company office records show both are directors in a property company called Earl of Auckland. Along with another business partner, Key and his wife own a third of the company's 10,000 total shares.
Key is adamant he has no involvement in a leaky building issue his political opponents are trying to tar him with.
Key says he is a director in the company identified, but it is not subject to any leaky building claims.
He says one of the other shareholders, Leuschke, has a completely separate and non-related business which is involved in a leaky homes claim.
However, Key says he has absolutely no involvement in that firm.
He says it is just another smear campaign by the Labour Party.
"There is nothing secret or dodgy there," he says.
