The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic beat the Auckland Diamonds in their National Bank Cup minor semifinal 51-42 in Rotorua on Sunday afternoon.
After a tense first quarter where the hosts narrowly led 11-10 the Magic gained the ascendancy with a dominant second quarter that saw them leading by 5 goals, 24-19, at halftime.
The third quarter was also close and the Magic displayed patchy form before finally hitting their straps with a dominant display in the final period.
Captain Joline Henry said post match that she believed her side's past two losses to the Diamonds gave them added motivation. Henry said the losses actually worked in their favour because it made her side play with extra grit and determination.
The loss signals the end of the season for the Diamonds, while the Magic move on to face the Sting in Invercargill this Friday for a place in the final.
