The Alliance says it will increase income taxes by one percent to provide more health services, including free doctor visits.

In the party's health policy released on Monday it says its dedicated health levy will generate $840 million.

Alliance Leader Laila Harre says more than half of the money would be used to pay for free doctors visits and free prescriptions.

She says District Health Boards would receive $300 million in extra funding a year to meet operating deficits, pay staff more and reduce waiting lists.

Harre says the one percent health levy would apply to all taxpayers, but she says it would be offset by a reduction of income tax for those with incomes of up to $50,000.
