Moody undecided on future
Apr 30, 2007

Tom Moody had been expected to return home to guide Western Australia next summer but he says he might continue as Sri Lankan coach after all.

The 1999 World Cup winner coached the Sri Lankans into Sunday's final against Australia, captained by Moody's former Australian team-mate Ricky Ponting.

Ponting's side triumphed by 53 runs with coach John Buchanan stepping down and former South Australian wicketkeeper Tim Nielsen set to take over.

Nielsen and Moody were the last two in the running to replace Buchanan but Moody pulled out for family reasons.

"I'm not making any decisions on my future until I've had a chance to speak to the Sri Lankan cricket board, until I've had a chance to reflect and have a look to see where I want to be professionally and personally," Moody said in Barbados.

Comments from last summer's West Australian captain Justin Langer that Moody was set to return to the WACA fuelled speculation throughout the World Cup that Moody was quitting his post after the tournament.

"I have intentionally put this whole thing on the back burner because it wouldn't be right professionally if I didn't give 100 per cent to Sri Lanka," Moody said today.

Moody felt Sri Lanka were on an upward curve ahead of the 2011 World Cup, which they will co-host.

"If we continue the professionalism that we are adopting ... there's no reason why Sri Lanka as a cricketing country can't compete with the likes of Australia," the 41-year-old said.

But in a hint that the travel demands of international cricket may not be his cup of tea with a young family, Moody added: "I've got some high values as a family man and that's very important to me.

"As much as I am passionate about what I do, I like to think I've got a reasonable balance in my life."
