The Alliance MPs Kevin Campbell and Phillida Bunkle have kicked of the valedictory speeches to be made by about a dozen retiring MPs in parliament.
Both have referred to the controversies that led to the meltdown of their party during this parliamentary term.
Campbell said he had been saddened by the split within his party into two factions, saying he attempted to reconcile the two factions but did not play a starring role.
Campbell says he put his name forward for the Alliance party list but withdrew two days ago.
Alliance MP and former minister outside cabinet, Phillida Bunkle, said she had no option but to say goodbye to what she described as the circus.
Bunkle also paid tribute to the auditor general's fairness, which she described as her only defence during the controversey last year over her claiming an acommodation allowance, which saw her removed from her ministerial post.
She says parliament has become rougher and tougher on the families outside the house.
Bunkle says parliament should also sort out the conflict between the Electoral Integrity Act signed to stop MPs from party hopping and the standing orders of parliament which protect the rights of individual MPs.
She says that has been at the heart of the problems within the Alliance.
