Unable to see the ruins of their homes

The death toll from the Victorian fires continues to spiral, and there are predictions that 300 people may have perished as authorities concede there are places they haven't been able to reach to where they know there are casualties.

Many of those who escaped are getting angry that the police are preventing them from going home.

Close Up reporter Michael Holland caught up with one such man, Denis Spooner, who lost his wife Marilyn and son Damian. He is still not allowed back.

There are many many people like Denis, desperate to get answers.

Angry at the circumstances that allowed the fires to spread. To help try and get a persepective on that and how tough it's been for the firefighters we speak to Ken Williamson and David McGahy from the Victoria Country Fire Authority.
