Michael Holland has also been travelling around the fire ravaged state of Victoria.

Last night he drove to Bendigo, two hours north of Melbourne, which is no isolated backwater by any stretch of the imagination.

It is a city of 100,000  people, an urban area, and it was there that he met Karen and Brad Plant as they sifted through the remains of their life at number 9 Albert Street.
