Close Up speaks to a victim of identity theft about who she thinks the culprit might be.
With New Zealand's justice system based on the premise of "innocent until proven guilty", North Otago resident Brooke Currey seems to be the exception.
She has a stack of infringement notices against her name, but the odd thing is all the offences have occurred in Auckland - Brooke lives in Kurow.
Brooke has made it clear that she has two fines of her own - one, a speeding ticket; the other for having an unregistered vehicle. However, when Brooke tried to pay them off, she was told that she would then effectively be admitting to all the others with an altogether cost of $5,000.
When Close Up asked police why more checks weren't done in this case, they replied that they couldn't comment because no formal complaint had been made, despite Brooke's assurances she's been to the police station twice for assistance.
