It's stuff that's a little close to the bone for a lot of couples and for some MPs it might just be uncomfortably close.

The latest Kiwi film to hit cinemas is Separation City and its writer has been mining the lives of those he knows for material.

Cartoonist Tom Scott has spent decades round parliament satirising the politicians, now he's put all the tawdry bits and pieces he's learnt along the way into his movie.

Lead character, Sam has a crumbling marriage and job as the senior private secretary to a particularly lecherous government minister.

As someone who's spent more than a few years round parliament himself, Mark Sainsbury takes Tom Scott for a walk round parliament to sort out fact from fiction.

And the Close up team is joined from the red carpet at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington by Kiwi star Danielle Cormack, who's just received a Best Actress nomination in the New Zealand film and television awards.
