If a picture can paint a thousand words then it
certainly sealed the fate of the Rose A Lea rest home in
Palmerston North. The photo of 103-year-old Myra Letts tied to her
bed taken by a rest home worker horrified all. But was that
photo a true representation of what went on inside Rose A
Lea?
The family of Myra Letts are furious at the intrusion on her
privacy. They say their mother was well looked after at the rest
home.
That didn't stop the Mid Central Health board from moving in on
Friday and shutting them down on Monday and moving all
thirteen elderly residents suddenly.
That's upset other relatives and aged carers who say the rest home
owners have been quickly and unjustly maligned. But the rest home
worker who blew the whistle in the first place is standing
firm.
Julie Ireland and her daughter Shirell maintain the standard of
care at Rose A Lea was substandard and they have more photos to
prove it.
They join Close Up along with Martin Taylor from Aged Care
Association and Royce Johnson whose father was a resident at Rose A
Lea.
