New Chums in the Coromandel is the latest battleground - the proposal to build there is on-track, although discussions continue between the owners and the environmental defence society.

There has been a record number of public submissions to council both for and against the development at New Chums

But should it have even come to this? Should there be a workable policy in this country to preserve our outstanding beaches?

One submission was from Labour leader Phil Goff, who talks to Mark Sainsbury about his opposition.
