Professor Richard Stubbs is one of New Zealand's most acclaimed surgeons.
He has a medical career spanning 30 years and is the only surgeon who is qualified to perform a radical variation on gastric bypass surgery. He claims it cures diabetes, obesity and even eradicates sleep apnoea.
But it comes with a risk - 1,200 of his cases have been a success, but two patients have died.
The Wellington surgeon has just been found guilty by the medical tribunal of professional misconduct.
But as Daniel Faitaua found out, his patients are still willing
to go under the knife.
