While thin might be in across the Tasman, but there is no such scandal among the girls competing for the same title here.

Fifteen young women from all over New Zealand compete to become Miss Universe New Zealand Friday night in Levin, a town not usually known for bikinis and tiaras.

Close Up reporter Corinne Ambler went along to meet them.
