It has been a banner year for Kiwi actress Melanie Lynskey, starring alongside the likes of George Clooney and Matt Damon.

And she does not really know quite how it happened.

In her latest film she plays Matt Damon's wife, a role many women would kill for. She's also working with director Steven Soderburgh: A gig that many actresses would kill for.

Tim Wilson caught up with her recently to get the inside view and ask, what is Matt Damon really like?

Kaitaia Water - In the 'good old days' the council used to deal witht he alge problem in the dam buy a very simple method - they used to have a small jet boat whizz around in it for a couple of hours thereby airating the water and this killed/controled the alge. Simple but effective!!

Another beating....a 62 war veteran no less! This was in Tauranga in a posh part of town. How would these teenagers feel if it was there grandfather???!! It is appalling. He was only trying to help a crying girl and gets a bashing for his trouble.

Not a good look for alternative therapies, Yes the min of health should warn of risks - sort of a medical caveat emptor. There is far greater danger seeking conventional medical treatment or drugs. The min of health has an obligation to warn the public. For eg, in ACC's budget a separate a/c for medical treatment injuries has ballooned 335% in the last 10 years. Iatragenic deaths are 3 times the road kill in NZ every year. Warn us about this too. Time for a close up look at big pharma.

Beware when the so called natives start demanding to change the colonial history in favour of their own. The Chinese were first in NZ and settled - the native people seek to hide that fact on the West Coast. Close Up should do some in depth investigative work and prove the original NZ colonial past.

There is (or maybe was) evidence in Northland of the remains of a largish town of unknown origin, but speculated to be Celtic. The local whanau have reportedly threatened or stopped access to this by researchers and may have bulldozed them into oblivion. Hardly a threat to any Treaty of Waitangi claims. It shows desecration or suppression of our ancient history has no boundaries. There have also been stone circles found in Northland.
