Human impact on Godwit journey

In the bird world they would be labelled the 'ultra marathon runners' and that would be an understatement.

The Godwit makes an annual non stop run from Alaska to New Zealand - a journey of 11,000 kilometres.

They travel so far to fatten up for the return journey.

But now there are worries that environmental issues may compromise their feeding grounds and these gutsy long haulers may have to change their travel plans or risk their very survival.

Sonia Voigt at Miranda on the Firth of Thames as the latest arrivals touched down from Alaska.
