There is a huge fuss going on about something very, very, small.

It is a tiny amount of additive folic acid that from September, bakers will be forced to add to New Zealand bread.

The reason is folic acid can prevent birth defects but critics say this additive could cause problems itself, enough to cause Britain and Ireland to delay introducing it.

But here is the problem, our Minister of Food Safety doesn't agree with it either. Kate Wilkinson says we are no longer masters of our own food standards, because our deal with Australia means we are forced to go by their rules.

Mark Sainsbury talked to Food Safety minister Kate Wilkinson and former National MP, now representing the bakers in her new role as Chief Executive of the Food and Grocery Council, Katherine Rich.
