Download at your peril

Have you broken the law today? Or to put it another way - have you used a site like limewire, e-donkey or pirate bay. If you have, the chances are you broke the law.

For those out of the loop, they are all what is called p2p sites - internet sites where you can share files of music, films and even TV programmes.

And there is so much stuff around you can download for free that it is hard to resist the temptation. Most of us would not give its legality a second thought, but  freeloaders beware.

The laws to protect copyright holders are about to be ramped up. The government has a plan to deal with repeat copyright infringement and Friday 07 August is the last day for public comment before decisions start to be made.

Gill Higgins looks at the issue and Mark Sainsbury talks to Mathew Boland from Telstraclear, APRA's Arthur Baysting and Bronwyn Holloway-Smith of the Creative Freedom Foundation.
