For the past decade Kiwi tri-athlete Kris Gemmell has promised so much but when it comes to delivering there has been a few stumbles.

Injury forced him out of the Athens Olympics and his Beijing campaign crashed and burned.

He's watched fellow competitor Bevan Docherty excel on the international stage, winning silver in Athens and then bronze in Beijing.

You might think there would be a hint of bitterness but through all of that an amazing friendship has developed.

Matt Chisholm caught up with them as Kris prepared to square up the ledger.
