Close Up joins a former police officer in his quest to give help to the war-torn Solomon Islands.
Dean Gifford at over six foot tall had a bullet-proof attitude to life when he was diagnosed with a deadly brain tumour.
A frontline police officer in Wellington for over 14 years, the man known as Giffy beat the tumour and discovered a change in his life. Giffy began helping people he'd never met in a place he'd never been to, helping to gather aid parcels for those in the Solomon Islands.
Now, Giffy's police and defence force colleagues have decided it's time Giffy got to go see the country he's dedicated so much of his life to.
And if you think you can help with paint for Honiara Hospital, one of Giffy's projects, or any other useful supplies for the Solomons - get in touch. Email closeup@tvnz.co.nz.
