Two years ago Close Up met a young mum with an ambitious plan - to turn disposable nappies into useable compost.

Ambitious because no-one anywhere had attempted such a thing, and certainly not on a commercial scale.

Karen Upston, mother of two from Rangiora now presides over the official opening of the world's first commercial nappy composting facility.

She has realised her dream - Karen Upston is New Zealand's composting queen.
