As Yoda was to Luke Skywalker, Peter Jackson is to sci fi fans.

The chance of a close encounter with the reclusive Kiwi director was hotly anticipated this weekend in Los Angeles.

Jackson was making his first appearance at Comic Con, the world's biggest comic convention on the planet.

But the thing fans forget is that once upon a time, before all the fame and glory of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Jackson was not too dissimilar to them.
