It's a simple concept: If you donate $5 to charity, you have every right to expect that $5 ends up with that charity. But if you gave that $5 to the Epilepsy Foundation it seems only 10 cents made it to the people who need it most.
Which is why Epilepsy NZ has severed all ties with the Epilepsy Foundation. The two are separate bodies - the foundation was set up as a fundraiser for Epilespy NZ, but after a three year relationship, Epilepsy NZ realised it had only received 2% of what had been raised.
Which begs the question, how many other charities operate like
this? Close Up talks to Epilepsy Foundation president John
Molineaux as well as CEO of the Charities Commission, Trevor
Garrett.
