Art collector and philanthropist Julian Robertson and his wife Josie stunned the art world, and the average Kiwi, back in May, when they announced they would be leaving 15 spectacular artworks to the Auckland City Art Gallery.

They are from the likes of Matisse, Picasso and Dali, and worth $115 million.

Last week, Julian Robertson arrived in New Zealand on his private jet, carrying five of the works, which will be on display until Friday at the gallery.

They are a preview of the collection Julian and Josie have bequeathed to NZ, after they were blown away by the response when they lent us some paintings three years ago.

They were swamped with letters from Kiwi kids and others who were impressed by the paintings for other reasons.
