It is being called the battle of Down Town versus Brown Town; Cash versus Colour. Whatever it is, it is six months until the postal ballot that will decide who becomes the mayor of Auckland's new super city.

But what about the team behind the frontrunners: Who is pulling the strings for the contenders and who is behind them? Close Up takes a look.

However, there are also cries of foul play, with claims that 75% of Auckland's assets will be run by government-appointed directors. Mark Sainsbury put the question to government minister Rodney Hide.
