Here is a selection of responses:
Margaret: One of my many programmes that I enjoyed was The
Avengers, and Hudson and Hall when they were icing something and I
can not remember which one but they put salt into the icing instead
of icing sugar.
Colleen: My very first recollection of TV were 2 programs
that have stuck in my mind all these years and they were Rin Tin
Tin and Seventy seven Bingaltance. I used to love these shows. We
never had TV when it first came out. Only one family in our
neighbourhood did and they would let all the kids from our street
come over and watch theirs.
Geoff: My favourite show/highlight on New Zealand television must
be coming home after school to watch the cartoons with Ollie
Ohlson. The stuff happy childhood memories are made of! Keep
cool till After School!
Colin: One of my favourite programmes was Play School in
1979. Great story lines and good presenters.
Trish: Watching all the excerpts from old programs I am reminded of
a program called Booma that was hosted by Chic Littlewood, but that
has not been mentioned. This program featured children from
all around the country who were musical or did something
special. One of the acts that was on was my eldest son John
who at that time was the youngest bagpipe player in the
country. There were many other very clever children, but this
program seems to have been forgotten
Sarah: My favourite highlights are particularly of the 70's
was watching the Commonwealth Games in colour. My favourite
programmes were High Chapparell, and Bonanza, and I remember as a
teenager hurrying to do the tea dishes to watch The Waltons.
My favourite NZ programmes would have to be 'Close to Home',
'Pukemanu' and definitely 'Country Calender' and 'It's in the
Bag'. I was also a big 'Western' movie fan and remember the
big MGM on the TV screen before the start of the Saturday night
movies. My favourite animation cartoon was 'Top Cat' and like
my son who races home on his bike to watch 'Sponge Bob', I too did
the same just to watch my favourite cartoon. The 'Gargoyles'
which was also an after school animated cartoon was also my
favourite. Congratulations on 50 years of
television.
Chloe: Gotta be McDonalds Young Entertainers! I remember we HAD to
video record it every week so we could rewatch them! I wonder what
happened to all the Super troupers?
Toni: My favourite moment from TV 1 is the Kiwi and the Cat because it meant I was allowed to stay up late and it was a real treat.
Justine: My favourite was Spot On, on Sunday evenings. It brings back fond memories of childhood. We used to go for a Sunday drive, get fish and chips on the way home, and then settle in to watch Spot On.
Lynne and John: Two of our favourite programmes were Bonanza and the Dukes of Hazzard
Jill: It was the first teenage pop show in the 60's. In The Groove ran from 1961 to 1965. I was dancer and choreographer for that time. We had to rehearals in the old NZBC studios in Shortland St. We had 2 vinyl records given to us each week and had to choreograph (and find the dancers) to do LIVE SHOWs each week. The show was a launching pad for Kiri Te Kanawa, Howard Morrison, Peter Posa, Alison Durbin. The Chicks, Tommy Adderley, Ray Columbus etc and overseas stars. I danced with Gene Pitney and Bobby Vinton. Loved the show and those very early pioneering years.
Miranda: My favourite show would be 'McDonalds Young Entertainers' - Home grown talent as well as a young Jason Gun presenting. Bring back re-runs!
Neil: My All Time Favourite TV Moment Was Telethon. My mum used
to set a bed up in the lounge for me and I would watch all night.
Fantastic days back then.
