Cheers to 50 Years

TV ONE

Do you remember?

Ray Schofield interviewing Arthur Fielder

Cindy Schofield, daughter of TV presenter Ray, sent in these pictures of her father. In the first one he is interviewing Arthur Fiedler.

She writes: "Dad bought him home for dinner the night before that interview, and they got to know each other over a bottle of whiskey.

"The interview was well oiled as well. Interview tactics were very different. Dad believed that it should appear that the viewer was able to look in on a conversation. He did a lot of research and certainly an important 'guest' like Arthur Fiedler faced no unexpected questions. My memory has him as a lovely courtly old gentleman with a fascinating accent."

The second image is her father reading the news in Dunedin.

One other strong memory for Cindy was the day John F Kennedy was assassinated.

"Late morning and Dad and I were at the local tennis court. It was a couple of miles from home. Suddenly a police car roared up, sirens going, and Dad had to go in to announce the earth shattering news. I had to walk home, I was 11 and quite put out."
