Castle is a comic crime series about a famous mystery novelist, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion). Bored with his own success, Castle's comfortable life is disrupted when a murderer begins staging scenes from his novels.
In an effort to solve the crime, Castle is paired with NYPD Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Having just killed off the main character in his bestselling series, Castle is looking for new material. The longer he works with Beckett, the more he realises that she would make a perfect character for a new novel.
Canadian-born Nathan Fillion previously starred in TV2's Desperate Housewives as Dr Adam Mayfair. "I didn't have much to do," Fillion said of his time on the Desperate Housewives set. "The pressure was very low on that show. All the women do all the heavy lifting."
Having taken a supporting role in Desperate Housewives, Fillion has relished the chance to play the lead opposite Stana Katic.
"Stana can play chemistry with a wet paper bag. She has an intrinsic understanding of how to play it and just how to find the language. We have a lot of fun often."
When asked if he knows of any real-life crime authors like those
who appear in the series, Fillion said," I haven't hung out in that
world very much. But they were kind enough to come down and play a
scene with us. I was a little intense about meeting [Steve Cannell
and James Patterson]. These are powerful men. And they came in, and
to some extent they were a little nervous. This isn't their realm,
making television shows."
