One of the country's most successful bakeries has become the victim of its own success.
Yarrows Bakery in south Taranaki has announced it will lay off 10% of its Manaia workforce, 28 jobs, in order to relocate part of its business to Australia.
The company supplies bread for fast food giant Subway, and that part of the operation will now take place in Sydney.
Yarrows has been operating in New Zealand for 86 years.
The company employs around 250 people at their Manaia plant, making the bakery the major employer in the town which has a population of 900.
