Spartacus' value to NZ revealed

The New Zealand Film Commission is congratulating the team behind Spartacus, as the US television series wraps up filming in Auckland.

The four-year production has generated more than $200 million of spend into the New Zealand economy.

Film Commission CEO Graeme Mason says it has seen 315 permanent and 150 casual crew employed per week, as well as 5000 extras days per season and 20 key cast roles.

He says that has meant up-skilling opportunities and internships for New Zealanders in the screen production industry.

Executive Producer Rob Tapert was enthusiatic about filming in New Zealand.

"Shooting Spartacus in Auckland for the last four years only reconfirms my belief that New Zealand is a world class leader for film and TV production" he said.

The fourth and final season of Spartacus will air in the US from January.

It has screened in Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, Brazil, Ireland, Turkey, Italy, India, Pakistan, Slovenia, Australia and New Zealand.
